Abstract:

The field area for this project is located in the Duntroon district, National one-mile series map G.l27 North Otago, approximately 105 kilometres north of Dunedin. The area was bou~ded by Duntroon-Kurow highway to the north, Waimihi creek to the south and extends along the course of Maerewhenua river to the east and Waikoura creek to the west.
Field work was carried out mainly from the early to the middle of February, and during May's first term holiday.
The main object of the research was to draw a detailed map, and to analyse/to establish the Tertiary rocks sequence. This largely involved measuring the sequence of the strata and collecting samples. More than on~ hundred representative samples were collected which are distributed throughout the area studied.
The bed of formations are dipping one direction to the northeast with gentle angle from 5° to 7°.
